Law Wei Zhen

Hi Mrs Tan, thanks for teaching me when I was in my primary school years. In Primary 6, when you first came into our class, I immediately thought of you as a strict and authoritarian teacher. However, that mindset was soon to change because over the next few months, while seeking advice from you to complete the various portfolio assignments, I realised that you were very kind and willing to patiently offer advice to me to stretch my potential, and also complete the assignments with my best efforts. You would always leave fond memories of you in my mind and my time at Nan Hua Primary School. After hearing that you were leaving to become the Vice-Principal of Clementi Primary School, I was shocked and surprised because you had taught at Nan Hua for many many many years. However, I understand that people need new challenges to get them moving, so I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for what you have done at Nan Hua Primary, and wish you all the best in Clementi Primary. For the first few years, it may not be an easy job acquainting with the new students, but judging by your potential and skills, I believe it would not be difficult for you to strike up rapport with the students and help them as much as you helped me and my fellow students. So long, and thanks for all the chesse!

Dear Mrs Tan,
I heard that you are leaving Nan Hua. This is extremely saddening given that I cannot imagine Nan Hua without you. The silver lining however is that you are staying in the teaching profession, to continue influencing lives.
I remember tour SS lessons vividly even though you taught us for only a year. That is because it is not just the textbooks you teach, but also values, values that last forever. Your enthusiasm is also something that can be felt, allowing for discussions that are sometimes off-topic, something I apologise for.
Although you might no longer be teaching, I wish that you could continue influencing lives like how you did to me. Thank you for being a teacher, a mentor, a friend.
PS: your house is really nice

HELLO MRS TAN!!

Hahahah im not sure when you will read this, but rest assured that no matter how long later from the day im writing this that you read this, my (and the rest of the 11 of our) feelings haven't changed :D

Thank you for being one of the most amazing teachers I have ever had in my soon to be decade of school life. You share the top position with the rest of your friends (you called them friends when i said they were your colleagues) mdm may lee mr yap mrs soh etc :D Im not sure whether you know this but you influenced your students more than you ever knew you did. We can tell your passion in teaching when you talk to your students, and you constantly bring joy and laughter to your class unknowingly. With you as a teacher, you lift everybody's mood and I have always, always had fun in your class.

I never knew how to appreciate you in Primary 6, when you were still teaching us, because all my years in Nan Hua, my teachers were as dedicated and passionate as you were. It wasn't till secondary school that I realised not all teachers were going to be like you, and as weird as it sounds, I realise that I appreciated you more when I entered secondary school than I did when I was still P6. I love how you are so bubbly and cute (HAHAHA) and you can crack lame jokes with us, and also how you are just like a friend to all of us. We always looked forward to going to your house since P6, and even though that took almost 2 years to happen, all of us were so happy that you remembered and prepared so much food for us!! Thank you so much for all the love you have shown to all of us, for going far beyond what a teacher does, and finally for being a friend to all of us.

When Mrs Soh and you told us that you were leaving Nanhua at the Asian Civilisation Museum, as much as I knew it was a great thing for you, I (and the rest who were there) were very sad as well. I was sad because the next time I go back to Nanhua, I know there will no longer be a cute Mrs Tan sitting in the HOD office, or someone like you wearing her tag to welcome us. But I realised now that as much as we cannot bear for you to leave, I am truly happy for you as you have entered a new stage in your life.

I have so many feelings towards you that I don't know how to express into words. I am so very thankful that you are my teacher, and I cannot express just how much all of us adore you. I cannot put a reason to why you are so special to me, as a teacher and as a friend, because this is a feeling I cannot express through words. However, it can be expressed through the smiles and laughter when I am around you, or the way my heart warms when I see photos of us together. I guess at the end of all these words, I am just beyond grateful that you are my teacher. I never stopped seeing you as my teacher, even though I graduated from Nanhua in 2012, and I don't think I ever will, because you have given me and all your students way too much to remember, and way too much for us to ever be able to give back to you.

If someone asks me who one of the greatest teachers in my life is, it will be you. Though you are taking on a new role as vice principal in your new school, I believe you will continue to spread love and warmth to all the people around you, children and adult alike. I know you will be an amazing vice principal, and a wonderful new friend to everyone you meet. I'm sure you will be able to bring the huge inspiration you are to a new school, and touch the lives of many people just as you did with mine. No matter where you go, you will always, always have people who remember and are grateful for you, and I am confident that Clementi Primary School would soon be a school filled with love, just like Nan Hua, with a vice principal who was once a teacher that showered her students with all her love, and a vice principal who will always be the most amazing teacher her students will remember.

This is getting way too long so I am going to end this here, we will definitely miss you Mrs Tan! However, your presence will be felt whenever I meet a teacher as genuine and caring as you are, or whenever I see a great teacher whos blur at the same time. Many things about you we see in other people will continue reminding us of you, and rest assured that when we do remember you, all that's in our minds are happy moments filled with laughter, joy and love. And finally, for the last time in this lonnngggg note (though I cannot say this enough), thank you so much for everything.

With hugeee amounts of love, (and a bit of sadness because you are leaving)
Yi Lin <3

HELLO MRS TAN!!!

Congratulations x1000000 for becoming the Vice Principal though I selfishly wanted you to stay when you first told us about it. But I'm cool about it now so please don't be so sad about leaving NanHua (says me who cried haha) but really, graduating from NanHua didn't change a single way i felt for NanHua and i'm still really loving it till now so we can love it together from afar hahaha The great thing about nanhua to me as an ex-pupil is that no matter how far away i go, no matter how much time has passed, i still love it so much so basically, nothing has changed as long as we always remember it fondly haha and i'm sure you feel the sameee :)

Anyway, i'm sure you'll do really really great as a vice principal! You really really deserve that position.mMaybe one day you'll be transferred back to Nan Hua as a vice principal too!!! (or principal :O) Mrs Neo's 继承人 haha but you were a great teacher be it in anything you have taught :D I guess you're just that versatile and cool you can teach almost anything :D

I actually remembered you as my art teacher in Primary1!! (1D'2007!!!! - With ShuYang and Timothy) I can totally remember 1D sitting on the floor in rows of 5/6 and you sitting on a chair in front of us holding up art pieces and talking about it to us haha good times omg. The eleven of them always says my memory is super bad but as far as i can remember, when you stepped into class in p6, i remembered you as a really motherly and nice teacher who was really really friendly to us even though you were merely an art teacher and not our form teacher :) Though my art was never the best, thank you for being a really really nice art teacher back then :D (7 years ago omg)

Then came p6 in 2012 where we were reunited again!!! haha this time you taught us a core subject and we had much more interaction time this week. I really really really will never ever never ever forget the peppermint sweets you gave us to help us stay interested and focused in tertiary secondary and primary industries haha. I admit i never really loved social studies last time but you made it totally bearable like i actually enjoyed learning about industries!!!! I still remember everytime some one in class looked slightly sick, you would be super duper caring like nurse mode on haha and i guess that's just how good you are :D I guess your sincerity as a teacher and your committedness in being a teacher really really touched my heart.

Lastly, THANKYOU for becoming more than a teacher, THANKYOU for being our friend :D youth day 2014 was probably one of the best days of my life. But i was really touched you kept your promise OMG thank you soooooo soooo much HAHAHAH sorry if we disturbed your family but THANKYOU for that wonderful day I will never forget. I've already spent 2 long years in nanyang that is more than enough to prove to me that Nan hua teachers are the best and you are one of them. Lets please keep in touch forever so you can continue sharing all your life stories and lessons  just like the times we had in the 4th level classroom with red doors and be our lifelong teacher :)

To be very very honest, I want to buy you your meepok noodles with chilli padi again the next time I go Nan Hua or simply meet you in the walkways of that familiar school and just stop and talk but I guess its okay. Life moves on!!! 尽管多少的不舍得,人生还是要继续往前走!SO ALL THE BEST AS VICE PRINCIPAL MRS TAN :D You can do it!!! We really need to keep in touch many many years down the road okay! Continue smiling and stay happy!!! Have fun everywhere you go and I can imagine you doing really cool stuff like the children's days performance you did in 2010 (amazing haha) I'll always love you as a really really great teacher so all the best in the future. The light from your future is blinding me. So bright haha please don't forget about us. I'll really really miss you :( Keep in touch and all the very very best in Clementi Primary and take care <3

A student you inspired,

Hi Mrs Tan! :D

Thanks for being a great social studies teacher to us in p6. Industries, primary, secondary and tertiary industries, transportation etc... Social studies may not have been the most interesting subject, but thanks for making social studies lessons fun and not so boring. Hehe. We may not remember what your taught us but we will definitely remember you as an amazing social studies teacher.

In 2012, I still remember we filmed the 95th anniversary video together and you writing integrity on the board. You were teaching us about our school motto and we were trying to be enthusiastic. LOL it was quite awkward at that point in time because of all the cameras. We still remember you telling us that your husband would not pour you water actually hahaha. P6 social studies was fun thanks to you (and we enjoyed the peppermints.) :D

Also, thanks for inviting us to your house for fun. (We were dripping wet when we entered your house because of the rain oops :P) We thought that you were kidding at first but you still invited us to your house after such a long time. We thought you would forget about your promise to let us visit your house(after 1 year 8 months) We had an amazing time at your house (haha your house is very very nice). Thanks for inviting us although I know that the 12 of us made a lot of noise. :P You are actually the first teacher that allowed us to go to their house hehe.

I can't believe you are leaving nanhua already. Thanks for being such an amazing, awesome, cool and nice teacher. We will always remember the fun times we had together. You may not be teaching in nanhua anymore but to us you are still the best social studies teacher. You have made a difference, you have shaped our minds, you have changed the world one child at a time. Continue making a difference to other students' life just like how you have made a difference to ours.

Thanks for all the great memories you made together with us. Thanks for being a part of my life. Thanks for everything. We will miss you.  <333

Love,

Thank you so much for teaching me. In my time in Nan Hua, you were (and still are) one of the best teachers I've ever seen. You are always so kind and caring to all students, and your joking ways always made the lessons very enjoyable. Your experience and guidance has really taught me a lot, and I really hope I will be able to learn more from you in the future. I'm sad that you're leaving Nan Hua now (as others would also be), but I really hope that you will be able to take this opportunity to grow as a teacher, and also be able to help inspire, motivate and guide other students like you have done for me. It's a new dawn for you, and I wish you all the best in the future!

PS Thank you so much for inviting all of us to your house that time. It was an amazing experience. Please invite us again :)

And even if we do, we'll never forget the person who taught us all these ;) Thank you for being a really REALLY wonderful teacher <33 You have made SS lessons much more interesting and not boring hehehehe xD I think if it wasn't you teaching I would have zoned out during class cause the topics actually quite xian hehe :P But you have captured our attention for the whole of P6 very 厉害!! Actually you also always digress from the topic  hehehe xD

It's okay 如果我们要看到你的话 can go watch the 95th anniversary video!! Thanks for inviting us to your house that time and letting us in even though we were dripping wet >< Your house very big very 漂亮leh got second level siol!! I know we very noisy especially 12 of us together so 谢谢 for tolerating our noise level (even the random and loud Happy Birthday piano song we played on your piano)!! I think you're the first teacher to ever invite your students to your house leh I can't believe you actually remembered you promised us to let us come your house :D

You have made a difference in our lives! And you have changed the world, one child at a time!! Thank you for being a really wonderful and awesome and cool teacher I will never forget :D Although you won't be in Nan Hua anymore, I'll always remember you! 我们会想你的! <33

Hello Mrs Tan! It was definitely with sorrow and grief that I heard that you are leaving Nanhua (what a sad mood I am setting, let us make this a lil happier!). Well, though u have chose to left for another school, the memories we all have of you and the memories you have of us will all continue to live on in our hearts. You have been such an awesome teacher (and as they say, awesome doesn't even begin to cover ur awesomeness). Truly it has been such a joy and honour to have been a student of yours. Your teaching have been valuabe in so many ways to me, and you have definitely changed me radically. It was you that continued to push me through my studies when I slacked and thought nobody cared about me. It was the little extra things that you did for me, the word of encouragements uttered to me, the smiley faces of my worksheets, the care and kindness shown to me that gave me a shimmer of light. No doubt about it, you are a super teacher. You definitely fulfilled so much more than your given role as a teacher, guiding us in our paths as young ladies and gentlemen. Though I did not express it that day, when you offered me a dry shirt so that I would not fall sick, I was very touched. Your care and concern for your students has helped so many people in so many ways.  The bright flame you have given us from the candle in your heart lives on as a spark in all of us as memories; from giving us a pretty bookmark each to telling us interesting stories about your family to the words scribbled neatly on our worksheet to the individual care you give to your students to the things you say to us. Now that you are moving on to touch the hearts of a new bunch of students, just know that all of us Nanhuarians will still be silently rooting for you in the backdrops. Thank you so much for being a mentor, a friend, a guardian, a teacher to me and all of us! We will keep in touch!!

Dear Mrs Tan,

Firstly, I'd like to congratulate you on getting the place of vice-principal!! (Even if it's not in Nanhua) You've always been a wonderful teacher and Clementi Primary made a vvv good choice in choosing you :D

Secondly, I would like to thank you for everything you've done when you were with us (you will always be with us - in our hearts and on our minds) and when you were in Nanhua (-: Your teaching was always on point, even though you often deviated from your point (it's okay we just learnt a wider range of lessons!!), and I'm really glad you were the one who taught us Social Studies in P6, and that we got to know you as both a teacher and a friend. It's always important to have a teacher who teaches not only their subject but life lessons as well - and you were that for us. I'll always remember you as the teacher who wrote 'Integrity' on our white board while we filmed the video for 95th anniversary ((-: Your personalized little encouragement notes for each of us before PSLE (even when PSLE did not consist of SS!!!) warms my heart each time I look at it (yes, I still have it stashed away safely somewhere). After we graduated, you were always there to welcome us back every time we visited Nanhua. It's sad to think that next year, we wouldn't see you anymore )-: Thanks for inviting us to your house that time too ((-: It was more than one year after you promised to let us go there, so it was rather a pleasant surprise that you had not forgotten (even though we did remind you rather often about it). It was a really fun day and we got to eat the food you (or your maid) cooked!! I'm so glad the teachers and us were able to feel so comfortable around each other. You have really become a friend to us <3

Lastly, I want to wish you all the best in all your future endeavors (-: Starting at a new school might be hard, but, if anybody could do it, it's you. I was genuinely happy for you when I heard that you were the GEP HOD, but now I'm even happier, because you've managed to become a vice-principal!!!!! I hope you like our little present for you - it's just a thank you for all you've done for us.

A picture speaks a thousand words, but even that is not enough to express my gratitude and love(!!!) for you ((-:

Hi Mrs Tan, congratulations on becoming the VP of Clementi Primary! Although I’m sure that you have many memories of your time in Nan Hua, and many emotional ties to your colleagues and ex-students, I’m positive that being the VP will be an exciting and new experience for you, even though it will come with new challenges. I have faith that you’ll be an awesome VP and inspire countless students with your energy and positivity.

It’s been a couple of years, but I’ve still managed to remember the time when you were teaching SS to us. Thanks for being a great teacher, one who is patient and meticulous in explaining the concepts and stuff and going through the answers for the Common Tests (is that what they were called?), and one who is able to put up with so many mischievous students who are just so full of energy! ;) I’ve forgotten most of the content now, (I don’t even remember in which year, P4, 5 or 6 I learnt the topics) but what I do still own are the memories which were forged and the skills and values that were inculcated within us.

I remember how you invited us to your house, then seemingly forgot about it, then actually allowed us to visit your house. It was a great experience! We are most definitely looking forward to returning! ;)

I hope that you’ll always remember this creative bunch (2012!) and that you’ll enjoy your new role.

All the best,

Wei Shu Yang (4/5/6KT4 ’10 ’11 ’12)

Hi Mrs Tan,
Firstly, sorry that I can't be there today as I am currently in New Zealand.
It's really sad that you have to leave Nan Hua... You've been a great teacher to me for two years there.
My first memory of you comes way back from 2007 (Art P1D). I still remember you using the timer function on the visualizer in an attempt to settle the class down and then there was this long awkward silence hahaha
Then came P6 where you taught us Social Studies (accompanied by all the meaningful discussions). Even though the subject wasn't examinable at the PSLE, I still learnt a lot during your lessons, and I have you to thank for that.
Graduation came and went, but you still maintained contact with us, even lending us your house for the feast we still never (and never will) forgot. You took time to see us whenever we would come back to Nan Hua, especially during Mid-Autumn.
You are a kind and caring teacher, always upbeat, and that really made my P6 experience very enjoyable. I can never forget your smiles that would always cheer me up.
Wished that you could stay in Nan Hua longer, but it's the MOE's calling, so who am I to interfere? It is my wish that wherever you go next, you'd bring the same smiles there, and that you would find joy in whatever you do. Hope to see you again (somewhere, somehow) soon! :D
Yours sincerely,
Timothy Soepadmo
